Initially, Image Comics’ superhero known as Invincible was developed for a featured film. The eight episode long adult animated series however, is now said to be headed to Amazon Studios. The series is one hour long, written by Robert Kirkman and artist Cory Walker. Soon after Ryan Ottley wrote Invincible #8, it got a straight-to-series order from Amazon, Sources at The Hollywood Reporter disclosed.
“Robert has an uncanny talent to predict the zeitgeist, and we are incredibly excited to see him break boundaries in an animated one-hour format,” Said Amazon Studios Head of Scripted Programming, Sharon Yguado. “In a world saturated with superhero fare, we trust Robert to subvert expectations while encapsulating a story filled with heart and adrenaline. We love his ambitious plan for the show and believe it will look like nothing else on television.” She continued.
“I am very proud of the series Cory Walker, Ryan Ottley and I did together for over 15 years,” Kirkman said. “Knowing that our characters will live on in multiple iterations in other media is almost overly exciting to bear! What Amazon is allowing us to do in animated form is definitely ground-breaking, and I can’t wait for our huge fan base to experience it!”
The series centered is centered on the heroic teenage superhero, civilian known as Mark Grayson. He inherited superpowers from father, an alien named Omni-Man, and a member of the Viltrumite race. Invincible has become quite popular among loyal fans and has received critical praise over the years for honoring superhero tropes while simultaneously subverting them over and over again. It features a large cast of characters and has opened the gateway for multiple spinoff miniseries. The series wrapped up with Invincible #144 by Kirkman and artist Ryan Ottley, which was recently released on February 14.
