Robbie Amell has charmed his way through rom-com’s such as The Duff and Netflix’s When We First Met and soon he will be heading back to the popular streaming platform for a new comedy titled Desperados. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amell will be joining Nasim Pedrad (SNL), Jason Mitchell (The Chi), and Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect) in the feature from Funny or Die’s Lauren Palmigiano.
Desperados follows “a woman (Pedrad) who falls for the perfect guy, but when he doesn’t return a call she sends him a ranting email. When she learns the man has been stuck in a Mexican hospital with numerous injuries, she grabs her friends for a crazy trip south of the border to delete the email from his computer.” Ellen Rapoport’s script was first in development at Universal in 2009 (it landed on The Black List that same year), but it never made it to production, until now, nearly a decade later.
Amell is no stranger to Netflix having appeared in A Series of Unfortunate Events as well as The Babysitter and When We First Met. Other credits include a recurring guest spot on The CW’s The Flash and a starring role in 2013’s The Tomorrow People. Soon he will be co-starring with his cousin and Arrow star Stephen Amell in Code-8, which centers on a desperate young man possessing special powers who clashes with a militarized police force after committing a petty crime.

Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
