‘Riverdale’: A Look at Season 4

Riverdale is back for a fourth season!

Season 4 comes back with a tribute to Luke Perry in the premiere episode titled “Chapter Fifty-Eight: In Memoriam.” This will address the aftermath of Fred’s absence, which has yet to be addressed on screen.

“It’s the immediate aftermath of what happened to Fred, and the story is really set around Archie [Apa] wrestling with this huge tragedy and his friends being there for him and helping him through it,” creator and showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said, who doesn’t specify how Fred dies.

“We had the table read for it about [two weeks] ago and I’m not going to lie, we were all crying,” creator and showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said. “But we think it … honors the memory of Luke [and] it honors the memory of Fred. They were both such amazing human beings that we wanted to really, really craft an emotional and deep tribute to him, which is what I hope this episode is.”

“I’d never really experienced the power and the emotion of a group of people gathered,” Aguirre-Sacasa reflects of the table read. “Even the actors who didn’t have lines in the episode came to be a part of that. We were all crying. At a certain point, KJ [Apa] started, then Cami [Mendes] started, and I started, and we just didn’t stop. I’m really, really proud of the way everyone came together in terms of honoring the memory of Luke and honoring the character of [Archie’s dad,] Fred.”

Not much else is known about the season as the town prepares for the Independence Day parade before the Fab 4 enter senior year. Archie is also about to get a life-changing phone call.

The end of last season, we saw a scary teaser. It featured Betty, Veronica, and Archie around a fire covered in blood. It seems like they were covering up a murder. There have been some theories regarding Jughead’s fate and why he was not with them that night. What do you think?

Riverdale will premiere on the CW Wednesday 9th October, with episodes arriving on Netflix the following day, Thursday 10th October.
