Things aren’t looking too great for Archie come season 3 of Riverdale. After being framed for murder by Hiram Lodge and arrested in the season 2 finale, he’s going to be getting a lot of heat from the new prosecuting attorney on his trial, Ms. Wright, who will be played by Penelope Ann Miller (American Crime).
According to her character bio, “The savvy, eloquent Ms. Wright is the prosecuting attorney in charge of handling Archie’s case. With a conviction in mind, she will weave together disparate moments of Archie’s young life to portray him as a dangerous, violent sociopath who is capable of committing a heinous crime. And Archie’s freedom will hang in the balance.” Of course, thanks to some of Archie’s behavior in season 2 when it came to the Black Hood, that may not be the hardest photo for her to paint.
In addition to the news of Miller’s casting at Riverdale’s San Diego Comic-Con panel, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa hinted that season 3 would feature the addition of two more characters who have remained quite elusive the past two seasons – Judghead’s mom and sister.“Gladys and Jellybean are coming around episode 8 or 9,” he teased fans with.
Despite having just started filming, the show was able to pull some footage together for a quick teaser that showed the core four heading on a Labor Day weekend getaway, reitierating the time jump that Aguirre-Sacasa spoke about earlier this summer.
It also featured a glimpse at the cult that Polly and Alice Cooper have stumbled into at the Farm.
Recently, Miller starred in Lifetime’s TV Movie New York Prison Break: The Seduction of Joyce Mitchell and appeared in 2016’s The Birth of a Nation. She also was a series regular in season 1 of ABC’s American Crime and starred in the first season of ABC’s Mistresses.
Based on the popular Archie Comics, Riverdale puts a darker spin on the lives of Archie Andrews (KJ Apa), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) as they take on the evil that lurks in their small town. In addition, the series also stars Casey Cott, Luke Perry, Marisol Nichols, Madelaine Petsch, Madchen Amick, Skeet Ulrich, Ashleigh Murray, Vaness Morgan, and Mark Consuelos.
Season 3 of Riverdale premieres on Wednesday, October 10th!
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
