Rumors of a potential West Wing reboot are still swirling about, only this time, former series star Richard Schiff confirmed that some discussion on the topic has actually taken place.
While a reboot of the hit political drama is far from being developed, in a recent interview on Popcorn Talk’s I Could Never Be, Schiff, who currently stars on ABC’s The Good Doctor, earnestly addressed the topic saying that creator Aaron Sorkin, at the very least, has spoken with him about the possibility.
Schiff says that he frequently hears/sees internet chatter from fans wishing for the series return with much of that discussion instigated by his own former co-star Josh Malina. When asked if a reboot was happening, Schiff jokingly replied, “First of all, Josh Malina, on Twitter, keeps giving hints that it’s going to happen just to mess with people, and then he gets a Twitter frenzy going.”
Just last summer, Malina stirred the reboot rumor pot by posting the below photo captioned, “Talking reboot.”

While we love Malina’s playful teasing, the fans really do want to know – will there be a reboot of The West Wing? Schiff answered:
[row]“Aaron [Sorkin] has said he wanted it to happen. He might go with a new administration, in which case, you know, some of us might show up as consultants in that administration. It makes no sense. Maybe one or two of us would be in the White House… So, we’ll see”[/row]
Indeed, we’ll see, and we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed too!
The NBC series The West Wing was created by Sorkin and followed the inner workings of the White House under the fictional Bartlett administration. Starring Rob Lowe, Martin Sheen, Richard Schiff, Bradley Whitford, Alison Janney, Dule Hill, John Spencer, Janel Moloney, and Josh Malina, the series ran for a total of seven seasons from 1999 through 2006 during which the cast of the series was awarded numerous Emmys for their performances.
The West Wing would most certainly hold relevance in today’s politically charged climate so, what do you think about a possible reboot of The West Wing? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section, and you can check out Schiff’s full interview below.
