ComicBook.com reports that, Rian Johnson, director of Star Wars: Episode VIII, has confirmed the next installment of Star Wars will pick up right after the events of The Force Awakens, breaking the usual tradition of time passage in previous Star Wars films.
Speaking at Star Wars Celebration Europe this weekend, Johnson said, “For the first time, we’re breaking Star Wars tradition, and starting our movie right where we left off. Skellig Michael is an incredibly mystical place. To be there and have that be the first thing we were shooting was an appropriately surreal way to start everything off.”
Episode VIII will star Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, as well as newcomers Laura Dern, Kelly Marie Tran, and Benicio Del Toro.
The film is currently shooting in England and aiming for a December 2017 release.
