On Tuesday it was slated that Sam Raimi, Robert Zemeckis and Matthew Vaughn were set to battle it out on who would direct DC’s upcoming ‘The Flash’ movie. Today it has been reported that Spider-Man director, Raimi has passed on the opportunity.

While that now reportedly leaves two directors in the running, it seems Zemeckis is on a tight schedule whilst working on the production of an untitled film starring Steve Carell, which is believed to begin filming in August. Additionally, Vaughn is in a similar position and hasn’t attached himself to the project due to conflicts relating to a possible third Kingsman movie.

In other news relating to The Flash, Entertainment Weekly have further reported that Alien: Covenant star, Billy Crudup will no longer portray Barry Allen’s father Henry in the film.

While Crudup’s reps have declined to comment on his exit from the project, it could simply come down to scheduling conflicts.

Fantastic Beasts actor, Ezra Miller will reprise his role as Barry (aka The Flash) in Justice League following brief appearances in last year’s blockbusters – Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad.

With two directors already walking away from the film – Seth Grahame- Smith and Rick Famuyiwa – due to creative differences, the film currently has no release date.
