Apple Original Films has announced the theatrical release date for its upcoming spy thriller, Argylle, starring Henry Cavill. The film is set to hit theaters exclusively on February 2nd, 2024, before becoming available for streaming worldwide. Apple has teamed up with Universal Pictures, the studio behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Fast X, for the exclusive theatrical window. This release strategy follows Apple’s previous collaborations with Paramount Pictures for Killers of the Flower Moon and Sony Pictures for Napoleon.
Argylle will now debut alongside other films such as Wise Guys, featuring Robert De Niro in dual roles, and the Lionsgate and Blumhouse thriller, Imaginary.
While specific plot details are being kept under wraps, Argylle promises globe-trotting adventures with super-spy Argylle, portrayed by Henry Cavill, across various exotic locations including the United States and London. The star-studded cast also includes Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, John Cena, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, and Samuel L. Jackson.
Director Matthew Vaughn, known for his work on Kick-Ass and the Kingsman films, expressed his belief in the cinematic experience and discussed finding the right theatrical release for Argylle, highlighting its unique nature. The film is based on a script by Jason Fuchs, with Vaughn producing through his MARV banner alongside Cloudy Productions and his regular collaborators Adam Bohling and David Reid. After its theatrical run, Argylle will be available for streaming globally on Apple TV+.
