Last weekend ReedPOP brought comic book culture to the city of brotherly love as Keystone Comic Con (KCC) held their inaugural event at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. Expectations were high considering ReedPOP is responsible for organizing some of the largest and most popular comic conventions throughout the year, including Emerald City Con, C2E2 and the ever-expanding New York Comic Con. While Keystone seemed to face some obstacles, that included less than stellar attendance, it does have potential.
As a comic convention veteran, I’ve grown an appreciation for each event’s own unique personality and Keystone Comic Con was no exception. From wrestling and superheroes to anime and sitcoms, KCC offered a wide array of fandom options while maintaining a large focus on creators. I spent my day trying to capture the essence of Keystone, and what I found often made me smile. Check it out…

Comic book legend Frank Miller addresses the audience during a Main Stage panel.
“Don’t go for the most popular character around, you won’t get it. If you do, big deal. Go for a lesser character, make it great… THAT’S a big deal!” – Frank Miller

Kudos to the staff and volunteers that were all so friendly and helpful, they answered my questions before I even asked! Shoutout to all my artist friends that worked hard to bring their very best to this show. You guys rock! As with any new event, there is a learning curve and next year’s show will surely be even better and on par with the ReedPOP’s high standards for providing fans with an unforgettable experience.
