Record-Breaking Crowds Showed up to the Limited Release of ‘La La Land’
It’s not even fully out yet but audiences and critics alike are already buzzing and turning out for the Emma Stone/Ryan Gosling original musical, La La Land.
The film doesn’t officially hit theaters until December 16th but a record breaking early release on the 9th throughout five New York and Los Angeles theaters proved that it will be the film to see this holiday and Oscar season. It broke the record for best all-time average for a film opening in five theaters – $855,000 ($171,000 per theater) as well as the best opening for a specialty film in 2016.
To further prove the excellence of the film it took home 8 Critics Choice Awards this past weekend including Best Picture. Now that is something to sing and dance about!
According to the film’s synopsis, La La Land was written and directed by Damien Chazelle (Whiplash) and follows Mia (Stone) and Sebastian (Gosling) “struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts.”
You can view the official trailer below. La La Land is currently playing in limited theaters with continued releases nationwide throughout December.

Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
