Rachel Bilson, known for her role in “The O.C.,” found herself in a troubling situation after being fired for her candid and humorous comments about her sex life. Speaking on her podcast, “Broad Ideas,” Bilson, 41, expressed her disbelief at losing a job because of her open discussion about sex.
The actress revealed, “This is the first time it’s ever happened to me in my professional life that I lost a job this week because of things that were said. A job got taken away from me because I was speaking candidly and openly about sex in a humorous way on our friend’s podcast.”
Bilson, a single mother, emphasized her frustration at not being given a chance to defend herself. She tearfully admitted, “I cried. I’m a single mom… I need these jobs… everything counts… I provide a lot for my family… my daughter… and regardless of anything else, it all matters.”
The “Hart of Dixie” star was taken aback by the firing, finding it baffling that she, as a woman and a single mother, lost her job simply for being honest and open about a topic as natural as sex. Bilson argued that her conversation about sex was taken out of context, leaving her feeling discriminated against.
“They said they weren’t comfortable with that [manhandling] headline, and if people keep Googling, they’ll see the other things that I’ve commented on, which was orgasms. And I feel like it’s discrimination,” Bilson expressed her frustration.
Earlier, Bilson had shared her favorite sexual position on the “Women on Top” podcast, mentioning her preference for missionary but highlighting the importance of being on top for achieving orgasm. She joked, “I want to be f—ing manhandled.”
Bilson further clarified her previous statement on the “Nick Viall Files” podcast, emphasizing that her ability to reach orgasm did not depend on her partner but on her own understanding of her body. She also acknowledged the difficulty women face in reaching orgasm during sex.
The actress, who shares a daughter named Briar Rose with her ex-partner Hayden Christensen, revealed her disappointment at the job loss. “I’ve been floored, honestly, that everything was set in motion and I lost the job. It sucks.”
Rachel Bilson’s experience sheds light on the challenges faced by women in speaking openly about their sexuality and the repercussions they may face in their professional lives.
