News for Fans, By Fans!

Production Postponed for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’.

Production of Guardians of the Galaxy (GOTG) Vol. 3 has been placed on hold in the wake of Walt Disney Studio’s dismissal of director James Gunn. Hollywood Reporter stated that the hold was indeed temporary and considered more of a “regrouping” as Marvel and Disney look for a replacement to take on the third installment. While a release date was never officially announced for GOTG Vol. 3, principal photography had been set to begin in January or February with full pre-production in the Fall, causing fans to hold hope for something soon. It appears that hope has dwindled…

James Gunn’s controversial firing has been a hot topic on social media since the announcement this past July. Fans started a petition that has currently generated over 387,00 signatures and GOTG castmembers came forward with a signed letter to show their support in re-hiring Mr. Gunn. It seems their efforts prove futile though as Disney chairman Alan Horn shut down the re-hire option during a mid-August meeting. Castmember David Bautista (Drax) remains steadfast though in expressing his outraged opinion on the what he considers an unjust punishment. Two days ago he tagged Disney in a tweet showing a disconcerting clip of Mike Cernovich, one of those that led the initiative in Gunn’s firing… to which Disney had no comment.

The question remains if Disney and Marvel will find a suitable replacement for James Gunn.

“Marvel and Disney are taking a measured approach in their search for a filmmaker — one source says that Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi recently had a meeting with Marvel, but it is unclear what project was discussed — and with good reason.” – Source: Hollywood Reporter

One should take great care when handling a franchise that has grossed over 1.6 billion dollars. The fans are dedicated and yet they are the ones that will endure the disappointment of poor decisions. Do you think Guardians of the Galaxy can go on without Gunn? Let us know at Fan Fest News.
