Rian Johnson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt go way back, with the pair collaborating on Johnson’s 2005 breakout movie Brick and 2012’s Looper. Johnson even found time to squeeze voiceover cameos for Gordon-Levitt into Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Knives Out.
Johnson and Levitt are reuniting for Poker Face, a new mystery drama that will air on Peacock. In a program written and directed by Johnson, Gordon-Levitt will star opposite Orange Is the New Black‘s Natasha Lyonne in what is his first full television series.
Both Johnson and Gordon-Levitt are currently experiencing significant growth in their professions. In early 2021, Johnson inked a fantastic contract with Netflix for $450 million for two sequels to Knives Out. The first of these, Knives Out 2, will debut in late 2022 with Daniel Craig reprising his role as Detective Benoit Blanc alongside a star-studded cast that includes Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Ethan Hawke, and Kate Hudson.
Gordon-Levitts’s career is also flourishing. He currently stars as Uber founder Travis Kalanick in Showtime’s Super Pumped and will star as Johnny Carson in the forthcoming ABC program King of Late Night, which is looking for a network.
There are no release dates for Poker Face yet. Because Netflix would desire Johnson to begin work on Knives Out 3 as soon as possible to earn back their large investment in the series, scheduling this may be difficult. Also, Gordon-Levitt’s popularity, and his being constantly in demand, implies that we won’t see the program debut this year.
