Some fans were really hoping that this wasn’t the case. I’m sad to say these poor fans have no had their hearts broken with the terrible news. With Jared Leto nowhere in sight, people were hoping that Harley Quinn would get a new love interest. One that comes in the form of Poison Ivy. I guess her showing up wouldn’t have been completely out of the blue. Most content that features Harley this year has also featured Ivy. They’re easily one of DC’s most popular couples. James Gunn has revealed that Poison Ivy isn’t in Suicide Squad, though. He revealed this over a Q&A and though it’s possible he’s lying, it’s unlikely. That won’t stop fans from hoping, of course.
Funnily enough, this isn’t the only time that Gunn has had to deny Ivy’s involvement in the film. He had to debunk rumors surrounding her inclusion back in August as well. This just proves how bad they want Ivy to show up in this film! Even Margot Robbie would love to see it happen, so we’re not alone.
“If you read the comics you know that Poison Ivy and Harley have an intimate relationship. In some comics, they convey it as a friendship; in other comics, you can see that they’re actually sexually involved as a couple. I’ve been trying to – I would love to have Poison Ivy thrown into the universe, because the Harley and Poison Ivy relationship is one of my favorite aspects of the comics, so I’m looking to explore that on screen.”
This is a comment from Robbie back in 2018.
Even without Ivy, the film could be great, and maybe we’ll get lucky and see Ivy join the DCEU sooner than expected! Perhaps in a sequel to the Harley Quinn Birds of Prey film.
The Suicide Squad is set to be released both in theaters and on HBO Max on August 6, 2021.
