On August 27, 1952, 70 years ago, Paul Reubens was born into the world. He is famous for playing the role of Pee-Wee Herman for over four decades. Generations of people have seen him in television and movies. Now everyone is celebrating his seventieth birthday.

Though best known for playing Pee-wee, Reubens has also starred in other movies and TV shows. Some of his most notable roles include the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie and providing the voice for characters like Batman: The Brave and the Bold and TRON: Uprising. Reubens first created the Pee-wee character with the help of The Groundlings. He further developed the character and then starred in The Pee-wee Herman Show. This show was filmed by HBO and shown as a comedy special in 1981. This led to Pee-wee’s world fame. In 1985, Tim Burton directed Pee-wee’s Big Adventure which became an instant hit movie.

The character Pee-wee’s Playhouse first aired on TV in 1986 and ran for five seasons on CBS. A movie sequel called Big Top Pee-wee came out in 1988. Reubens continued to act after this, but in 2010 he revived The Pee-wee Herman Show on Broadway. This led to another feature film called Pee-wee’s Big Holiday on Netflix.
