She’s baaaaack!  Director Patty Jenkins has officially closed her deal and will be returning for the Wonder Woman sequel, Variety reports.

Jenkins and Warner Bros. have reached a deal solidifying her return to write, direct and produce the sequel to the summer’s hottest blockbuster film.  An exact number was not divulged, however, sources have reported that the deal could be in the $8 million dollar ball park with a substantial backend of box office earnings included as well.

The Wonder Woman sequel was officially announced at San Diego Comic Con during the Warner Bros. panel.  The first film did exceptionally well at the box office and broke numerous records including earning the title of the highest grossing live-action film with a female director.  The film grossed $409 million domestically and earned a whopping $813 million worldwide.

Gal Gadot has already signed on to return in the title role and the film is slated for release on Dec. 13, 2019.

Gadot will be reprising her role sooner than that as she is set to star in the upcoming Justice League film along side Ben Affleck, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher.

Next, Jenkins will be teaming up with Wonder Woman co-star Chris Pine for the TNT’s One Day She’ll Darken, a series based on the autobiographical novel written by of Fauna Hodel while working on developing the Wonder Woman sequel.   Even before her deal for Wonder Woman was finalized, Jenkins had already begun writing the script with Geoff Johns from DC and had a solid idea where she would like to take the story.  Jenkins previously told the Toronto Sun:

“I’m excited for her to come to America and become the Wonder Woman we are all familiar with from having grown up around her as an American superhero,” she said. “I’d like to bring her a little farther along into the future and have a fun, exciting storyline that is its own thing. Wonder Woman 1 is so much about her becoming the person she is. I can’t wait to spring forward with who she is and have another great standalone superhero film.”

We can’t wait to see what Patty Jenkins does with Wonder Woman 2!  Are you excited that she’s signed on officially for the sequel film?  Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
