Boundaries are tested and faith is questioned in the latest episode of ‘Outcast’, when Kyle decides to go visit his family regardless of the court order, and Reverend Anderson learns his connection with God isn’t enough to drive out the demons.
Now that Mildred’s secret is out of the bag, Reverend Anderson feels the need to check on some of his other parishioners who had been afflicted. The one man clearly recoils from Kyle and when he is touched by the outcast, he sizzles just like the others. The Reverend wants to help him, but the guy chases them off with a shotgun before Kyle can do his thing.
The second person they check on, a teenager named Sherri, left home shortly after the exorcism. Her father hasn’t seen her, but has heard she is living on the streets. Anderson later gets a tip on where the girl is, and they head out to see if she is also still afflicted. It doesn’t take them long to locate Sherri, and they don’t find her in a good way.
She is also still possessed, and reacts harshly when touched by Kyle. Sherri tells him to stay away, then she tells him something cryptic, but important:
“You’re the key. We need your light.”
“What do you mean, who’s we?”
“The nameless. The numberless. We see you through the veil. We come to you and you lead us here.
Sherri tries to siphon his life force, but Kyle gets the upper hand and is able to expel the demon. Unfortunately, Sherri wasn’t as lucky as some of the others and ended up in a vegetative state just like Kyle’s mother, Sarah.
Now Kyle needs to know if Allison is really herself, or if there is something else still lingering. After he gets Megan checks in on her sister-in-law, she reports back to Kyle that she definitely isn’t herself, but she suspects over medicating and no anything demonic.
Kyle goes back to Allison’s house, he wants to get close enough to see if his touch has any affect on her. Given the current situation that is a bit tricky to do. Amber sees her dad and runs straight to him, begging him to come home or let her live with him. Allison pulls the girl back instead and warns Kyle to stay away.
Allison has a moment of anger towards Amber, which scares her enough to go seek out Kyle to get some answers. Allison doesn’t remember what happened the night Kyle hit her, but knows something isn’t right about the official story. She’s not still possessed, but she is definitely having a hard time maintaining clarity. When Kyle refuses to tell her the truth, she leaves angrily.
Another important piece to this dark and twisted puzzle was mentioned when Sydney paid a visit to Mildred. The demon inside the old lady tried to help herself to some of his darkness, saying she wouldn’t survive until ‘the merge’. His response:
“You took your chances my dear, just like all of us. Sometimes you draw the short straw.”
What do you think these new pieces to the puzzle mean? I don’t have a complete picture yet, but I believe the demons are planning to merge with the people and somehow they are being guided over by Kyle. To what end, no idea… but I think whatever plan Sydney is here to put in motion will happen soon and I don’t think the people around Kyle are going to be safe.
Do you think that Kyle should have told Allison about the night he exorcised her? Share your thoughts on the latest episode and remember to tune in to Cinemax, next Friday at 10/9C for the next episode of ‘Outcast’.
