Olivia Newton-John’s Daughter Reveals Loving Last Words Her Mother Said to Her

In her first interview after the death of “Physical” crooner Olivia Newton-John, Chloe Lattanzi revealed what were possibly her mother’s last words. The 37 year old daughter of Newton-John and her former spouse Matt Lattanzi also appeared on one of their final singles – “Window in the Wall”. It was released earlier this year as a tribute to the singer who is remembered fondly by millions across generations.

Appearing on the Today Show with co-anchor Hoda Kotb, Lattanzi recalled the heartwarming last words her mother said to her: “My sunshine.” Even in her fading moments of life, Olivia Newton-John still managed to bring laughter as she made jokes. Joining Lattanzi was John Easterling – Newton-John’s widower – for their very first interview since the Grease icon passed away.

After facing multiple battles with breast cancer, Olivia Newton-John passed away on August 8th 2022 at the age of 73. With her numerous hits from the 70s and 80s such as “I Honestly Love You,” “Let Me Be There,” and “If You Love Me (Let Me Know),” she quickly became an icon in entertainment. Not only did she star in iconic films like Grease alongside John Travolta but also was part of a classic musical called Xanadu! On February 17th 2021, her posthumous duet release for Jolene featuring Dolly Parton debuted to rave reviews.

“I love my mom more than anything,” Lattanzi told Kotb. “She’s my mama, you know? She’s not Olivia Newton-John to me, but I’m so glad that she was Olivia Newton-John for so many people.”

Lattanzi expressed that the support she and her family have received from Newton-John’s fans since her mother passed has been a true source of comfort. She stated, “It felt like an enormous hug from the universe! We are so grateful for all those who reached out to us with such love and compassion in this difficult time.”

 

Easterling also thanked fans for their support. He told Kotb he still speaks out loud to Newton-John and misses her the most late at night and in the morning. “I’ll just be walking around the house, or throwing the ball for the dogs and just speak to her out loud,” he said. “A guy I was flying with said, ‘You know, John, when you’re lucky enough to have found your true soul mate, and you share a heart, when one passes, the other has the obligation to live life for both.’ And that was very empowering and very powerful for me, and, you know, and gave a way forward.”

After Newton-John’s death, Easterling shared a heartbreaking statement on her Instagram page, noting how their love “transcends” their understanding. “Even now as her soul soars, the pain, and holes in my heart are healed with the joy of her love and the light that shines forward,” Easterling wrote. “Our family deeply appreciates the vast ocean of love and support that has come our way.”
