Square Enix is known worldwide for making some of the best RPG games known to man. For those of you who’ve never heard of them (shame on you), they’re responsible for the Final Fantasy series. They also made the ambitious RPG/Kingdom Hearts crossover series Kingdom Hearts. They’ve made some pretty awesome grid-based tactical RPGs as well. Final Fantasy Tactics comes to mind as one of the best. Now, the company seems to be working on a brand new tactical roleplaying game, which is incredibly exciting. I can’t wait for the new tactical RPG by Square-Enix!
The announcement came seemingly out of nowhere during a Nintendo Direct on Wednesday. There were a slew of other announcements as well such as Skyward Sword coming to Switch and a new Star Wars game too. This new tactical RPG, Project Triangle Strategy (working title), looks to be made by the same people behind Octopath Traveler. There’s not release date yet, other than sometime in 2022 but you should be able to try a demo in the Nintendo E-shop! By the time you read this the demo should be live, so you should definitely give it a shot if you have the chance!
The game sounds a lot like the Fire Emblem series, to be honest. Square-Enix themselves have said that the game is full of “choices and consequences”. You’ll have to bring your best strategies to gain an advantage over your enemies. You can flank, use elevated terrain to your advantage and use linked attacks with your allies for devastating damage.
Square-Enix will be putting out a survey asking for player’s opinions on the demo. This means you’ll be able to voice any concerns you may or may not have. Hopefully, there aren’t too many complaints, though. I think I’m actually going to go download the demo right now and give it a shot!
