New Star Wars Movie to Follow ‘Rise of Skywalker’ and Begin New Trilogy

A new Star Wars movie is in the works, and Damon Lindelof is on board to help make it happen. The project is highly secretive, with few details known at this time. Late Sunday night, news reports surface suggesting that Justin Britt-Gibson was also working on the script. More information about the project has begun to come out since then.

Although the new movie is set after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, it will not continue the story directly. Instead, it will be a standalone film that could potentially expand into a series if it does well at the box office. According to The Hollywood Reporter, some of the characters from the sequel trilogy might appear in the new film, but this has not been confirmed yet.

Plot summary of Damon Lindelof’s Star Wars movie

It’s unclear how true the reports are. The author hasn’t said much on the topic, but he did mention earlier this year that he would love to be part of the franchise at some point.

In an interview with Fandom, Lindelof said that “And, at some point, but certainly not in the immediate future, I feel like I would love to do something in the Star Wars universe,” he certainly doesn’t want to do anything in the Star Wars universe. He went on to say that, although he would love to do something set in that universe at some point in the future–but not anytime soon–maybe a decade from now.

How many other Star Wars movies are in development?

Although Lucasfilm has stopped production on Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron movie, there are still a few films being developed at the studio. This includes a movie from Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige and writer Michael Waldron. Rian Johnson has mentioned that his planned trilogy is still in the works as well.

“I have talked to [Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy] about it and we’re still talking about it,” Johnson said of his announced Star Wars spinoff. “Making The Last Jedi was such an amazing experience. It all comes down to scheduling now. For me, releasing this film [Gla**Onion] and making the next one of these [Knives Out sequels]… I just don’t know right now.”
