New Netflix Comedy from Ricky Gervais Casts ‘Downton Abbey’ & ‘Game Of Thrones’ Stars

Comedian and actor Ricky Gervais is heading to Netflix with a brand new original comedy series called After Life.

On Thursday, Netflix confirmed some awesome casting news regarding the upcoming series via a press release. Joining Gervais are stars

Penelope Wilton (Downton Abbey, Doctor Who), David Bradley (The Harry Potter series, Game of Thrones), Ashley Jensen (Extras), Tom Basden (Plebs, David Brent: Life On The Road), Tony Way (Edge of Tomorrow), David Earl (Cemetery Junction, Derek), Joe Wilkinson (Him and Her), Kerry Godliman (Derek), Mandeep Dhillon, Jo Hartley, Roisin Conaty and Diane Morgan (all from David Brent: Life On The Road).

Gervais has worked with many of the actors in the past and holds all those in the cast in the highest regards. He said in a statement, “This cast combines the best of the new breed of great British comedy talent with some of the wonderful alumni of my previous shows.”

The official logline for After Life describes a show that we can see having a lot of funny moments but also a lot of heart. It reads, “Tony (Ricky Gervais) had a perfect life. But after his wife Lisa suddenly dies, Tony changes. After contemplating taking his own life, he decides instead to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever he likes from now on. He thinks it’s like a Super Power — not caring about himself or anyone else — but it turns out to be tricky when everyone is trying to save the nice guy they used to know.”

Production is currently underway on After Life. Gervais is not only starring in the series but is also listed as creator, executive producer, and director.
