New MTV Channel Will Bring Back ‘Unplugged’, ‘Beavis and Butthead’, ‘Daria’ and Other Classics

If you have every yelled out, “I WANT MY MTV,” then you’re about to get really happy!  The music based network has announced that it will be launching a new channel named MTV Classic starting on August 1st.

joe-elliot-mtv-oThe new “Classic” network will be taking over the current VH1 Classic channel and will bring back a slew of MTV show favorites from the 1990’s and early 2000’s.  In a statement, MTV said the channel will be “an eclectic mix of fan-favorite MTV series and music programming drawn from across its rich history, with a special focus on the 1990s and early 2000s.”

beavis-n-butthead-gif-metal-13860493-318-237The network will be airing classic shows such as Beavis and Butthead, Daria, MTV Unplugged, The Real World, Laguna Beach and even taking a look back at Total Request Live!  How’s that for nostalgia!  Also, keeping things up to date with current technology, fans will also be able to watch “MTV Hour One” via MTV’s Facebook Live feed.

MTV Actually originally launched on August 1st, 1981 and is choosing to begin airing the classics on that date in honor of the network’s 35 anniversary.

President of MTV Sean Atkins sums up our excitement beautifully, “From Beavis & Butt-head to Laguna Beach, MTV’s programming vault is a music and pop culture goldmine with universal resonance.  MTV Classic gives audiences a modern and artful home for classic MTV programming and — alongside MTV, MTV2, MTV Live and mtvU — rounds out a diverse portfolio with music and youth culture at its core.”

We can’t wait to binge watch all of these shows we loved while growing up.  For a list of shows and air times, check out MTV.com.
