Warning: The following may contain potential spoilers from Season 2 of Fear the Walking Dead
Things really started to heat up in the mid-season finale of Fear the Walking Dead, literally. The group scattered after Daniel Salazar (Ruben Blades) burned down the compound, leaving each survivor to their own devices. The big question for the second half of Season 2 will be, “will they all reunite?” Showrunner Dave Erickson told Entertainment Weekly:
“The interesting thing will be watching them splinter off in multiple directions and seeing how each group can survive and what they do to find their place in the apocalypse.”
At the end of the mid-season finale, Nick (Frank Dillane) walks away from his mother, Madison (Kim Dickens), into a heard of oncoming infected. He is, perhaps, the most evolved in this new apocalyptic world and made the choice to set out on his own. Erickson says Nick is on a journey for comfort, though that feeling will be brief:
“For Nick, he wants to find a place where people see the dead the way he does, where people see the dead not as a threat, not as a danger, but as an extension of themselves – sort of an evolution. That’s his goal. So, when he leaves, when he realizes Celia’s gone, and the compound is burned, he’s going to set out to find people who are more likeminded and will give him some clues along the way. And then it sort of falls into the be-careful-what-you-wish-for category. When he actually gets to a place with some degree of spiritual comfort for him. It’s not going to last very long.”
The first new images from the upcoming second half of Season 2 show Nick, out on his own, surviving. What’s going to happen to him? Is Daniel Salazar alive? Will the group be reunited and continue their fight for survival together? We’ll find out when Fear the Walking Dead returns August 21st at 9pm EST on AMC.
Until then, check out the new images below, catch up with our recap of the mid-season finale and let us know your predictions for the second half of Season 2 in the comment section below!
