New Blue-Collar Family Drama ‘Love, Dad’ Produced By Freddie Highmore in Development at ABC

Earlier this year, it was announced that The Good Doctor star Freddie Highmore inked an overall deal with Sony Television. Highmore’s deal with the studio allows him to develop scripted projects for Sony across all platforms including broadcast, cable, streaming and international productions through his Alfresco Pictures banner, the first of which is now in the works.

Deadline announced on Monday that ABC is developing a new blue-collar family drama currently titled Love, Dad which Highmore is said to be producing.

The series is written by Dave Collard who, in addition to writing the series, will also be executive producing along with Highmore. The series is still in the early development stages, however, Love, Dad is described by Deadline as, “an emotional family drama that is centered around adult siblings from a blue-collar family in the most blue-collar of cities — Buffalo, New York. As the siblings navigate the ups and downs of their lives, they’re aided (and sometimes impeded) by each other, but also an unlikely source — their dead father, who has left them each an email account that he’s been writing to for their entire lives, so that he would always be there for them… even when he wasn’t.”

Highmore currently stars on the hit ABC medical drama The Good Doctor and also has solid experience behind the camera as well. In this season of The Good Doctor alone, Highmore penned the premiere episode and will be in the director’s chair for another upcoming episode. Before his time on The Good Doctor, he also served as a writer on two episodes and director for another on Bates Motel, a series in which he also starred as Norman Bates.

So far, we are loving the concept of this show and can’t wait to learn more as the project moves further into development.
