Here are a few screen shots taken from the trailer featuring Abu, the Magic Carpet, Genie, Jafar, Jasmine and Aladdin.
It seems that Disney has stuck fairly close to their animated classic, which will hopefully translate well to the screen. I’m just happy to finally see a shot of the magic carpet! I’m sure Disney hopes that this new trailer will alleviate some of the fear that has plagued this live-action adaptation. It certainly helps that audiences have finally been given a real feel for how the film will look after waiting an unusually long time for a full trailer.
The film is directed by Guy Ritchie, known for his Sherlock Holmes movies as well as Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Alan Menken has returned to provide the film’s score, which will include a new song written by Menken with Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, and two new songs written by Menken with lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, best known for their contributions to musical theater (Dear Evan Hansen) and film (The Greatest Showman).
Aladdin hits theaters on May 24th, 2019.
