Netflix Unveils ‘The Crown’s’ New Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon
Just two days after Netflix shared a first look at Broadchurch’s Olivia Colman as the new Queen Elizabeth II (replacing Claire Foy), they’re giving royal fans two more sneak peeks at the next generation of actors playing the iconic roles. Today, they released a look at Helena Bohem Carter who will be taking over Vanessa Kirby’s Princess Margaret and The Exorcist’s Ben Daniels, who is stepping into Matthew Goode’s role as Lord Snowdon. Check them out below!

It had always been Netflix’s plan to time jump on The Crown every couple of seasons, which they knew would require them to recast all of its main cast. While it’s a risky move for any series, fans seem to have been reacting very positively to the casting announcements, which also includes Outlander’s Tobias Menzies taking over Matt Smith’s role as Prince Phillip. The new actors will be playing these roles for seasons 3 & 4 before another time jump would take place should there be a season 5.
By recasting these coveted roles, The Crown will allow for a new crop of actors to revamp the series come next year’s award season. While the current cast was certainly recognized during the recent Emmy nominations with acting nods for Clair Foy, Matt Smith, Vanessa Kirby, and Matthew Goode, by the time the third season of a show rolls around it’s harder to take home that award. By bringing in new actors, Netflix is turning that theory on its head and will be bringing even bigger players to the mix come 2019 to continue their reign.
What do you think of Carter and Daniels in their new roles? Are you ready to see a new cast come and tackle the next chapter of the Royal family? Let us know!
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
