Tiger King: Joe Exotic to Receive New Sentence – Will He Get Out Sooner?

Joseph Exotic is currently incarcerated for a 2020 conviction on hiring a hitman to kill Carole Baskin and 17 related wildlife charges, which resulted in a 22-year prison sentence. Despite the fact that a federal judge last year dismissed his sentence, Joseph Maldonado-Passage (Exotic) has remained behind bars.

He’ll now receive a new sentence, after over twenty years in jail. On Monday, a new federal judge in Oklahoma ruled that the former exotic animal exhibitor will be re-sentenced on January 28th.

The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled two of his counts should not have been handled separately at the time he was given a sentence break. Even though Exotic faces up to 22 years in prison, the court determined that a maximum sentence is 22 years.

Exotic previously claimed to have been diagnosed with prostate cancer and was subsequently moved to a federal medical center in North Carolina, where he’s now been sentenced for 17 federal offenses. He has also been charged with five counts of animal cruelty and illegally selling tiger cubs. According to court documents, Exotic had killed five tigers, illegally sold tiger cubs.

Tiger King Season 2 centers around the upside-down world of the handlers of large cats, who seem to have a cutthroat competition among each other. Season two revealed an allegation that Exotic was framed for the hit on Baskin and was himself sought as a target of a hit at one point, by fellow big cat owner Jeff Lowe. The revelation comes from Allen Glover, the man who was himself paid by Exotic to off Baskin, according to Variety.

The show also follows Tiger King’s desire to have Donald Trump pardon Joe Exoctic.

Both seasons of Tiger King are now streaming on Netflix.
