An NBC familiar face will be heading to the new comedy Abby’s, which stars Natalie Morales and helms from Parks and Recreation creator Michael Schur. Neil Flynn, who appeared as the janitor on NBC’s Scrubs, has officially joined Abby’s after playing Mike Heck for 9 seasons on ABC’s The Middle.
Abby’s ” is set at an unlicensed bar in San Diego where the regulars enthusiastically enforce a unique set of rules that give them a sense of community and allow them to avoid the frustrating behavior found at other establishments.” Flynn will be playing a regular bar patron named Fred who is “grateful for a place to relax, unwind, and have a beer every night.” The pilot is currently set to star Parks and Recreation alum Natalie Morales as the titular character Abby and will be written by Josh Malmuth and directed by Pam Fryman.
Flynn has remained a busy yet consistent man in the TV world for the past 17 years. He went straight from his recurring role on Scrubs, which he appeared on from 2001-2009 to The Middle, which will be wrapping up it’s 9th and final season this year. Are you excited about Flynn’s new role?

Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
