After the success of Jesus Christ Superstar, NBC will broadcast the 1960’s musical, Hair.
Producers for Hair, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, brought not only Jesus Christ Superstar to us but they also gave us The Sound of Music, Peter Pan, The Wiz, and Hairspray.
Hair, which features funk/rock music by Galt MacDermot and book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado, first premiered off-Broadway in 1967 before transferring to Broadway in 1968.
Hair follows a tribe of hippies in New York who resist authority by conducting Be-ins and by burning their draft cards.
“When we both, individually, saw Hair on Broadway, we were knocked out by how musical theatre could be stretched into something so daring, immersive, and audacious,” said Zadan and Meron in a joint statement. “Its recent Broadway revival showed how timeless the show is and that it’s relevant to any era. Hair is filled with heartfelt emotion, joy, and thrilling music, and it really will be the new dawning of the Age of Aquarius.”
Let the Sun Shine in! Hair is set to premiere live on NBC in Spring 2019.
