National Treasure: Original Film’s Star Returning to the New Disney Plus Series

While Nicolas Cage is unquestionably the most well-known actor in the National Treasure franchise, there’s another actor who got just as much screen time, if not more: Justin Bartha.

As the sidekick to Cage’s character, he provided some fun comedic relief. According to Deadline, he’ll be reprising his role as Riley Poole in the Disney Plus sequel series.

Bartha will star in the series, along with actresses Catherine Zeta-Jones and Lisette Alexis. In 2004’s original as well as 2007’s sequel National Treasure: Book of Secrets.

Jess will be the main character in the new series, which follows her as she tries to discover the truth about her family and past. Of course, there’s a lot of treasure on the line. Lyndon Smith, Zuri Reed, Jordan Rodrigues, Antonio Cipriano, and Jake Austin Walker are among the other cast members.

Jerry Bruckheimer is returning as executive producer, alongside other prominent names like Cormac and Marianna Wibberley, and Jonathan Littman. Bartha is a well-known actor, but his part in National Treasure is just as popular as the films themselves.

He’s also appeared in The Hangover movies, Godfather of Harlem and The Good Fight.

With a multicultural cast, Disney has greenlit 10 episodes of the program and aims to modernize the tone for a younger audience with a diverse cast. The series will look at issues such as identity, community, historical authorship, and patriotism among other themes.

Unfortunately, the announcement of National Treasure as a streaming exclusive appears to have sealed the fate of the long-rumored third major screen adventure, with Nicolas Cage and Diane Kruger separately stating that it’s unlikely to happen.
