Almost a month after reports started circulating about her role, Academy Award winner Catherine Zeta-Jones was announced to be playing the main antagonist in National Treasure series for Disney Plus.
Although many fans have yet to give up hope that Nicolas Cage will return for a third big screen adventure, the prospects are quickly fading.
Fifteen years have passed since Book of Secrets, and the actor is no longer participating in huge-budget films, and even co-star Diane Kruger isn’t confident, so the franchise’s future appears to be solely on television.
There has been no indication from the Mouse House as to when we may expect National Treasure on Disney+, however cinematographer Tom Camarda has revealed on Instagram that sets are being built, implying that filming may not be too far off.

The two features have grossed over $800 million combined at the box office, and they’ve quickly become favorites among audiences who just can’t get enough of Cage’s Ben Gates and his crack team as they attempt to solve even more unbelievable puzzles.
This means that the National Treasure sequel is under even greater pressure to succeed, but for the time being, we remain hopeful.
