Natasha Rothwell, who both writes for and stars in HBO’s Insecure, has just scored a role in the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984 alongside Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, and Kristen Wiig. Of course, similar to everything else that has to do with the DC superhero film, Rothwell’s character is being kept well under wraps, but her casting is still exciting nonetheless!
Wonder Woman 1984 will once again be directed by Patty Jenkins who led 2017’s first installment to become one of the best-reviewed DCEU films and became the best opening weekend from a female filmmaker and the highest-grossing live-action film directed by a woman.
[row] I never want to do anything for the wrong reason. I want to make great movies in my lifetime, and we can make a whole new movie, that’s as strong and unique as the first. It’s not more of anything, it’s its own thing,” Jenkins said about the sequel at SDCC this weekend.[/row]
Rothwell has played Kelli on the past two seasons of HBO’s Insecure and has writing credits for 21 Saturday Night Live! episodes. Most recently, she guest-starred on an episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and appeared alongside Nick Robinson, Josh Duhamel and Jennifer Garner in the 20th Century Fox flick Love, Simon
Gadot, Pine, and Jenkins all stopped by San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend where they spoke a bit about the upcoming film and previewed two short clips. Jenkins remained coy as to how Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor could be back but did hint that “he is a very important part of our movie.”
Wonder Woman 1984 will find Gadot reprising her role as Diana Prince to take on the popular Wonder Woman villain named Cheetah who will be played by Kristen Wiig.
Wonder Woman 1984 will hit theaters on November 1, 2019!
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
