My Year of Gaming: ‘Injustice 2’

My Year of Gaming: Injustice 2

I purchased a Playstation 4 at the beginning of 2017 and it is the first time I have had a console since Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword came out on the Wii. Naturally, I have a lot of catching up to do and my backlog is incredibly massive. During the course of a year, I played my way through 23 games, and I figured I would take the time to share a little bit about each game. Perhaps you’ve played them and want to hear another opinion, or maybe you’ve been holding off on investing in a particular game. Either way, it’s never a bad time to spread your love of gaming.

The follow-up to the critically-acclaimed Injustice: Gods Among Us (2013), Injustice 2 (2017) once more allows you to take command of your favorite DC heroes and villains for one-on-one brawls. With an expanded catalog of characters, incredible graphics, character customization, epic super moves, and Multiverse challenges, Injustice 2 will keep you invested for hours on end.

In story mode, players are once more transported to an alternate universe where Superman went rogue and killed the Joker. His regime was put to rest during Gods Among Us, but now Batman needs his help as a new threat has arrived: Brainiac. The story was good and quite emotional, which I wasn’t really expecting. In addition to story mode is what the game calls the Multiverse, a rotating set of worlds that each bring unique challenges. They are only available for a short amount, which means the game stays fresh. Completing Multiverse events yields great rewards including gear, skills, and Motherboxes.

New to the series is the ability to completely customize your character from gear to moves to colors. It adds a new dynamic to the game because your character gets more powerful the better your gear is. There are also some pieces of equipment that are within a set, which means that the more gear you have equipped from that set, the more bonuses you can unlock. My absolute favorite thing to come out of this is the gear is all named as a nod to the lore of each character. For example, Swamp Thing has gear associated with Jimmy Olson, Green Arrow has a bow called “The Bow That Took Slade’s Eye,” and Captain Cold has a “Legendary Cold Gun” (a nod to his appearance on Legends of Tomorrow). It’s cool to be able to have complete control over the look of your character, and I spent a whole lot of hours going the best gear.

You can also join a guild, which is made up of players from all over who join forces in order to complete Guild Multiverse events. These are typically much harder, but offer up greater rewards. The good news is that you don’t have to have PS Plus in order to participate in a guild.

If you haven’t yet picked up a copy of the game, now is probably the best time as all of the DLC  is now available, which brings 9 new fighters to the table. On top of that, there’s now a Legendary Multiverse with crazy ridiculous goals you have to achieve in order to unlock, but the reward for doing so is incredible. Each character has their own Multiverse world and it will take quite a whole to meet the requirements. The bad news for people who had the game from the start is that all your past statistics do not factor into the requirements. Everyone started from scratch. So if you’re just getting into the game, all of your battles will factor into the Legendary Multiverse.

Overall, Injustice 2 is a fantastic game and I highly recommend it. It improves upon an already great game and is perfect for any fan of DC.
