When we think of cult classic horror films, Scream is one of the first ones that come to mind. The film was a hit and is still a go-to for scary movie nights. You still see people dressed up in the infamous mask on Halloween and that’s no big surprise. With gore, sex, and blood-curdling screams; it left a lasting impression on everyone who watched it.
It was such a hit that MTV decided to turn the main idea of film into a television series with the same title; Scream. There were some scenes that were very much like the film, and others that had a life of their own. We were, personally, big fans of the series at first – but it didn’t have the success that was expected, or necessary to keep the series going as it was. The series aired it’s first season in 2015 and the second in 2016 but fans were unsure if they would see another season play out.
It was announced on April 26th that there would, in fact, be a third season and a lot of changes would be made. These changes include an entirely new cast and new faces in production too. One of those new faces is none other than Queen Latifah. She joins the show with Shakim Compere and Yaneley Arty as executive producers, hailing from Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit Entertainment banner.
Hollywood Reporter had this to say of the new cast.
‘The series will feature an entirely new cast — which insiders say will be more inclusive as the series looks to put a new spin on a proved concept that has not been embraced on the small screen.‘
You can catch up on the previous two seasons before watching the third. The series centered around Emma Duval, the daughter of a victim of the masked killer, and her high school life. There is no release date for the third season yet, but you can keep up with MTV News to find out more information when it becomes available.
