Spider-Man Spin Off ‘Morbius’ Announces Release Date

Details are slowly pouring in for the latest Spider-Man spinoff movie, Morbius.

After the unexpected success of Venom, Sony has gone all in to create a line of Spider-Man spin-off films with characters from Spider-Man storylines, but not necessarily involving Spider-Man himself.

Next in line is Morbius. If you haven’t heard of Morbius, don’t fret. Here’s a short synopsis of the film’s reported story: “Biochemist Michael Morbius tries to cure himself of a rare blood disease, but he inadvertently infects himself with a form of vampirism instead.”

Intrigued? The vampire film will star Jared Leto (Suicide Squad, Requiem for a Dream) as Dr. Michael Morbius with Matt Smith (Doctor Who) recently announced in a starring role as well – but who he will be playing is still a secret.

You won’t have to wait too long for the movie, as Sony just announced a July 31, 2020 release date.

Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote the script. The two previously wrote the recent Power Rangers reboot as well as Netflix’s Lost in Space. There are rumors that Daniel Espinosa will be directing.
