Meryl Streep Pays Tribute to Carrie Fisher, Slams Donald Trump in Speech
Like any person in the spotlight, Meryl Streep has fans and people who are simply not fans. When somebody is put into the spotlight to share a voice, sometimes people disagree with what they have to say. Last night during the Golden Globes, the beloved Streep accepted the Cecil B. Demille award and gave a beautiful speech along with it. But some do not think it is so beautiful, especially because of her references to our President Elect, Donald Trump.
She referenced the example of Trump being accused of making fun of somebody who is mentally disabled, and put a plea out to him to respect foreigners as well as those who are in the arts. Take a look at the whole speech here.
Trump tweeted in response to her speech. Calling Streep “overrated”.

Trump’s campaign manager Kelly Anne Conway is speaking out about the speech saying it brings out America’s “worst instincts” regarding this country in its current state.
She additionally showed support for foreigners as well as the press. (Making a joke out of the fact that those who vote for the Golden Globes are members of the Hollywood Foreign Press)
The actress finally paid tribute to her late friend Carrie Fisher, quoting her at the end of her speech: “As my friend, the dearly departed Princess Leia said to me, take your broken heart, make it into art. Thank you friend.”
Many expressed their love of Streep and called her speech empowering.
