What happens when Santa Claus goes missing and his Mrs. is forced to leave the North Pole and find him before Christmas is ruined? That’s the premise for a new holiday musical ‘Margie Claus’ in which Melissa McCarthy will play the starring role and attempt to save the holiday for everyone.
New Line Cinema purchased the film recently and it’s slated to hit theaters on November 19th, 2019 and in addition to Melissa’s starring role, it will stand as her musical debut. She’ll have her husband’s support as she takes on the project, but not just on a personal level. Ben Falcone will direct the film and this won’t be the first (or last) time the pair works together.
In films like Bridesmaids, The Boss, and Tammy; the pair has worked together either behind the scenes or on screen.
Hollywood Reporter says New Line Cinema hopes this musical will have similar success to another holiday hit, Elf.
‘The project is described as a broad holiday family musical that New Line hopes will be in the same spirit (and have the same success) as another company Christmas movie, Elf.’
We’re expecting to get more news about the film as time progresses, but we have to say we’re very excited about the prospect of seeing Melissa add her own spin and personality to such a classic character and we can’t wait to see what hilarious things she encounters on her journey to save Christmas.
Are you looking forward to seeing Melissa in this type of role? What is your favorite holiday film? Let us know.
