MCU Will Soon Have two Openly LGBTQ Characters
Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios president, revealed to EW that there will be two LGBTQ characters in future films. One of the chracters is actually somebody we already know.
The executive simply answered “Yes” when Gregory Ellwood of The Playlist asked, “When are we getting a Gay, Bi, LGBTQ, out character in the MCU? Is it even in the works?”
When asked whether we’ve seen any of the characters who will be new to this story line, Kevin confirmed that there will be both characters we have seen and characters we haven’t seen. Although the answers weren’t detailed, they did show a welcome step in bringing diversity on the big-screen.
Ant-Man and The Wasp, Marvel’s upcoming July 6th release has been met by criticism from fans. The film was set in a landmark city for gay rights, San Francisco, which has a very high population of LGBTQ people, but they weren’t represented. Tessa Thompson has already cleared the air about Valkyrie from Thor: Ragnarok being officially gay, but this side of her character wasn’t shown or discussed on screen. However, there is no certain way of knowing if Feige meant Valkyrie or not. Some Captain America fans could be expecting romantic from Bucky and Steve, but only time will tell what the change will be in MCU.
This revelation is a huge step forward for the Marvel Universe and the entire LGBTQ community. We hope that as the storyline becomes clearer, it will be embraced by the entire MCU fan base.
