When it comes to motorcycle dramas, Kurt Sutter and his team know exactly what they’re doing. FX has just announced that his new Sons of Anarchy spinoff, Mayans MC, has officially received a second season order! While exciting, the renewal doesn’t come as a huge surprise seeing as the series kicked off to both positive reviews from critics and fans, followed by some extremely strong ratings.
[row]”Mayans MC is performing fantastically, proving to be a breakout first season. The series premiered as the highest rated cable series this year and continues to sustain a committed fan base, reflecting the talent and drive of creators Kurt Sutter and Elgin James. We couldn’t be more excited to take this ride to a second season,” said FX Networks President of Original Programming Nick Grad.[/row]
While diehard fans of Sons of Anarchy have been itching to head back into the world of motorcycles and brotherhood, Mayans MC has introduced them to a new world of characters, settings, and themes. It’s easy to compare the two, but after three episodes it’s clear that Mayans is quickly blazing its own trail.
[row]”The Mayans MC mythology sprung from the womb of Sons of Anarchy, but anyone who has taken the time to watch, knows it has become its own mythical creature,” added series creator Kurt Sutter. [/row]
Picking up a few years after the events of Sons’ finale, Mayans MC follows a prospect for the Mayans motorcycle club named EZ Reyes (JD Pardo). Despite having the whole world in the palm of his hand, one night changed his life forever, sending him to Stockton State Prison for eight years. Now, he’s out and trying to earn the respect of the club, his family, and his now married high school sweetheart.
In addition to Pardo, the series also stars Clayton Cardenas, Richard Cabral, Michael Irby, Sarah Bolger, Danny Pino, Edward James Olmos, Carla Baratta, and Antonio Jaramillo. Are you excited for the second season of Mayans? Let us know!
Mayans MC is currently airing its first season of FX Tuesdays at 10/9c!
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
