Matthew McConaughey joins UT Austin
Oscar-winning actor and producer, Matthew McConaughey will be teaching classes this fall at the University of Texas at Austin.
McConaughey is from Austin, TX and earned a film degree at UT Austin in 1993.
He has been a visiting instructor in the university’s department of radio, television, and film at the Moody College of Communication since 2015 and has accepted a professor of practice position within the college. He had previously taught a Script to Screen film production class with associate professor Scott Rice.
This fall, he will teach 40 students focusing on two movies he starred in- The Gentlemen (2020) due next year, and Mud (2012). Jeff Nichols, the director of “Mud,” is scheduled to visit the class.
“It’s the class I wish I would have had when I was in film school,” McConaughey said in a statement. “Making movies, turning words on paper into film, is both a science and art – no matter the time or generation. The elements of truth and genuine joy for the process are timeless. That will always be our classroom focus.”
