It would seem as though with
every passing month, the news for
Marvel fans continues to get better and
better. The Defenders is
coming, my friends, and now that Marvel has officially announced their
showrunners for the Netflix
Original Series, they can hardly wait to get
started!
Douglas Petrie
(Daredevil, Buffy the Vampire
Slayer)
and Marco Ramirez (Daredevil, Orange is the New Black)
are set to
return as
showrunners to the Marvel Universe for the Netflix Original Series
Marvel’s
The Defenders. They will
also be joined by another
DareDevil alumni, Oscar-nominee Drew
Goddard (The Martian,
Alias) as an Executive Producer.
Together, the trio of will
unite
the DareDevil, Jessica
Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist for the long awaited,
mini-series event
bringing our heroes together to face
their biggest threat yet.
I’m extremely excited about this selection of
showrunners. They have done a
phenomenal job in continuing the story of DareDevil in Season 2,
which
aired on Netflix on March
18th. Ramirez and Petrie have been part of
the Daredevil staff
since the series first aired on
Netflix, and were
promoted to showrunners in Season 2. In Season 2, they
successfully
introduced fan
favorites, The Punisher and Elektra. I have no doubts that they
will create
something amazing in regards to
The
Defenders.
“We’re incredibly excited to be able to
bring our four
street level
heroes together in an epic tale woven by Doug and Marco whose work
on
‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ speaks for
itself,” said Executive Producer/Head of
Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “They
write and produce not only great
action and
adventure, but also the heart and touch of humor that’s makes us
Marvel. With
the inclusion
of Drew Goddard, we’ve got a team that’s as formidable as the
Defenders
themselves.”
“This is the
big one. Four amazing casts, four
amazing series, now all in one amazing
story,” said showrunners and
Executive
Producers Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez. “We are thrilled at
the opportunity
to deliver the
show that both we and the fans have been waiting
for.”
Marvel’s
The Defenders will star
Charlie Cox as Daredevil,
Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as
Luke Cage, and Finn Jones as
Iron Fist.
The next chapter in The Defenders saga takes
place in
Luke Cage,
premiering on Netflix on Sept. 30.
