Marvel’s Black Widow Solo Film Takes a Big Step Closer to Actually Happening

Black Widow just might be one giant step closer to getting the solo film she deserves and Marvel fans are freaking out with excitement!  On Wednesday, news broke that Marvel has reportedly hired writer Jac Schaeffer to pen the script for the rumored film.

Jac Schaeffer is an up and coming writer who is best known for her work on The Black List and the upcoming Nasty Women (a reboot of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) which stars Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson.

While no official announcements or confirmations have been made by the studio, last year Marvel President Kevin Feige promised that he was the most committed to making a Black Widow film.  Last year, he said:

“We’ve announced the next nine movies, 10 counting Civil War, through the end of 2019. Where we go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we’ll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then. Of the characters that you’ve just mentioned, I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow.”

With full support from Feige and a potential writer on board, it certainly sounds like the Black Widow film is picking up speed.  Perhaps the release of Jennifer Lawrence’s Red Sparrow trailer, a film which has immediately been compared to Black Widow’s backstory, has inspired the studio to move full-steam ahead.  Hopefully, we’ll find out more details soon!

Marvel already has its first female-led film in the works with Captain Marvel starring Brie Larson, however, with Black Widow appearing in the MCU 8 years ago, fans certainly seem to think it’s time she took center stage.
