‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Renewed for Season 6 at ABC

Great news, S.H.I.E.L.D. fans! Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has officially been renewed for a sixth season on ABC! It was announced on Monday that the series had been renewed just ahead of ABC’s Upfronts which will take place on Tuesday.

Variety reports that the renewal for the series came down to the wire for an additional 13-episode. Though the series has been renewed for a shortened season, S.H.I.E.L.D. has now become the only remaining Marvel series on ABC with the announcement late last week that Marvel’s Inhumans had been canceled after its first season.
Earlier this year, executive producers Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, and Jeffrey Bell told Entertainment Weekly that they were preparing for the series’ end:
[row]“Right now, we’re writing a series end because as far as we know, this could be it. We’ll never end something without the potential for more story. That’s how we’ve ended every season because whenever we’ve come to the end of all the season’s past, we go into that mostly not knowing until the very last minute, so we’re basically doing the same thing to close out season 5. It can fit well as a possible series finale, and it can fit well as just another season’s end.”[/row]
Luckily, they won’t need to! No word yet on if the sixth season will be the final season for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but we can expect to receive more information at ABC’s Upfront presentations.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. stars Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, Henry Simmons and Natalia Cordova-Buckley. The fifth season finale of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will air Friday, May 18th at 9 PM EST on ABC.
