Marvel Held a Meeting With ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Director Taika Waititi: Our Theories

Some exciting prospects must be underway over at Marvel, because Taika Waititi met with Marvel Studios recently! His MCU return could be in the cards after all. He is one of the most recent examples of Marvel Studios acclaimed directors, who directed the wildly popular Thor: Ragnarok.

The film’s popularity and financial success brought with it a dilemma. It was originally meant to be the final piece of the Thor trilogy, but now fans are fully expecting more Thor. They’ve been getting it, with his hefty appearance in Avengers: Infinity War, but Ragnarok’s story and lovable characters opened it up for many possibilities. Waititi is working on Jojo Rabbit right now, but that doesn’t mean they can’t hold him for a future project, or that they are discussing ideas.

According to THR, the meeting was meant to address a different collaboration with the franchise and Waititi, but did not provide further details about the project. They could be considering Waititi for a whole different Marvel film altogether.

The other big speculation is that he could be in the running to take over for James Gunn, who was recently let go from the Guardians of The Galaxy films over old tweets. That news has fans and the actors reeling, and Waititi’s history with Marvel and his likeability may make him an obvious choice. Marvel’s Kevin Feige has expressed the desire to work with him again. Not only that, but Ragnarok contained the very same brand of humor that we see in the Guardians films. If Thor makes his way to the next film, Waititi really is a perfect fit.

No matter what the talks were about, we can expect a high caliber product from him-especially if we use Ragnarok or his other projects, What We Do In The Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople as references.

Would you like to see Taika Waititi take over the Guardians films? It could be the best case scenario rising out of a very bad one.
