Over the course of the first two seasons of The Mandalorian, audiences have seen a slew of beloved characters from animated shows make the transition to live action, with Kevin McKidd, who voiced Fenn Rau in Star Wars Rebels, recently expressing his desire to bring his character to life for the show. With Katee Sackhoff having played Bo-Katan Kryze in animation and live action, which may make such a scenario possible, McKidd wouldn’t be the first actor to voice a character for an animated Star Wars project and then play them in a live action experience. Season 3 of The Mandalorian is expected to premiere on Disney+ later this year.
On Twitter, a Star Wars lover wrote, “I’m hoping that Kevin McKidd reprised his role as Fenn Rau in The Mandalorian S3,” with McKidd responding, “Yes!”

Despite his interest, McKidd’s duties on the long-running Grey’s Anatomy might prevent him from taking part in such a project, but knowing that the actor himself is interested could lead the filmmakers to explore narrative reveals for an upcoming trip.
Given the ways in which the galaxy far, far away is expanding, we can’t entirely rule out an appearance in another area of the franchise at some time. McKidd may or may not appear in Season 3 of The Mandalorian; however, given how the galaxy far, far away is growing, it’s hard to say no.
While the current Star Wars television series, Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett, may conclude next month, there’s still plenty to look forward to later this year. Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi and Star Wars: Andor are both expected to debut on Disney+ in 2022, both of which unfold in the time between the prequel trilogy and the original trilogy of Star Wars films. Furthermore, Star Wars: Ahsoka is set to begin filming in the near future and while it is expected to premiere in 2023, the timeline of that series’ connection to the search for Rebels’ Ezra Bridger may see a number of familiar Rebels characters make cinematic appearances. Fans witnessed the debut of Ahsoka Tano’s daughter, Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka in The Mandalorian Season 2, while Natasha Liu Bordizzo was confirmed to play Sabine Wren in the new series.
Stay tuned for further information on McKidd’s potential return to Star Wars.
