Lucifer: Tom Ellis Says He Won’t Come Back to Portray Lucifer After Season 6

In an interview on the Kings of Con: The Podcast, Tom Ellis said that he’s done playing Lucifer after Season 6.  This is disappointing news, as the show continues to be wildly popular and draw huge ratings on Netflix.

Ellis explained, “Six seasons of the show is a real achievement. It’s been a huge emotional journey and I don’t think I want to do anymore. I know I don’t want to do any more” With such a popular character and show, knowing that a show has an endpoint – for the sake of story telling – can be extremely important in producing quality entertainment.

“Mainly because, I wanna know that we’re ending and, because, I’ve had such a great time. I think it’s only fitting that we have a proper ending to the show.”  Although as to see the show go, there is still more to come!

Season 5B should arrive in early in 2021 as filming is complete. It is possible that Season 6 could end up split the same way. This means we could still be seeing new episodes of Lucifer well into 2022.  That’s still pretty far away.

For viewers not familiar with Lucifer, its based on characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg, this series follows Lucifer, the original fallen angel, who has become dissatisfied with his life in hell. After abandoning his throne and retiring to Los Angeles, Lucifer indulges in his favorite things (women, wine and song) — until a murder takes place outside of his upscale nightclub.

For the first time in billions of years, the murder awakens something unfamiliar in Lucifer’s soul that is eerily similar to compassion and sympathy. Lucifer is faced with another surprise when he meets an intriguing homicide detective named Chloe, who appears to possess an inherent goodness — unlike the worst of humanity, to which he is accustomed. Suddenly, Lucifer starts to wonder if there is hope for his soul.

It’s a fun show and we definitely recommend it if you haven’t been watching! Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

  1. I loved the show one 1000%best shows ever I wished that Cloe and lucifur get married and have I evil baba and he can tell Cloe he love her

  2. I think if he is out they should use season 6 to wrap things up. Because no one can play Lucifer like Tom Ellis.

  3. I LIVE to watch Lucifer. I watch it over and over and over… .. if it comes to and end I will be really sad and feeling like I’m losing a good friend

  4. I love the show Lucifer. Being a Baptist preachers daughter as well I was sceptical at first if I’d like it. After seeing The sexy and intriguing Tom Ellis I said, what the heck. Just after the first minute i fell in love with the show. Please keep it going as long as possible please. Please Tom don’t go.

  5. I first thought it was a goofy reboot if the tough cop/bad boy partnership formula, but. I stuck around and enjoy the human interest .

  6. I love Lucifer very much and will be very sad to see it go, it is the best show ever. I am watching it right now over and over again it is so amazing I am fastinated by the show .

  7. It break’s my heart to see the show Lucifer end. Tom Ellis played Lucifer superbly along with the other characters in their rolls. The show had everything love, comedy, excitement, and drama etc! Tom is so talented in many areas, and has so much going for him who cannot blame him in furthering his career. I think I will always remember him best as “Lucifer Morningstar” good luck Tom

  8. Its a little sad to see such an amazing show come to an end, but i think thats better than continuing a show where the actors/actresses dont have theur heart in it because it’ll just digress and become a show that was great but not so much anymore. So its a sad decision but i whole heartedy support Tom Ellis’s decision.

  9. Surprised he wants to drop a show with a constant paycheck and safe crew who aren’t sick with the virus. Its slim pickings out there… but hey take the chance

  10. Lioking forward for the continuation of the Lucifer series. At this time of pandemic we really need this type of tv series to uplift our spirit. It was such an entertaining and enjoyabale story. Love to watch very exciting, Every episode gives us a smile and always looking forward for the next episode.

  11. Too bad if he’s not interested in prolonging his role to the series. He should be grateful that Lucifer series became popular. That’s a good promotion. Some tv series lasted for 10 series. Maybe if they really wanted to produce and extend this after the 6th series, can find another actor to replace Tom Ellis.

  12. Tom Ellis , your show is a hit and you want to END it? Really !! I think it’s probably about money and hopefully you get enough to satisfy yourself. Sometimes you need to think about other people that have a job because of the show and has a family to support… most likely. You are whining around that it needs to end. Smh wondering wth is wrong with you. YOU need to own it and appreciate that you have it. I love your character and you do it amazingly. I hope you continue the show and don’t be one of those people that gets exactly what you want and you take it for granted. I’m a big fan BTW
(A HIT SHOW) then you don’t want to do it anymore.
