Fans have been waiting for Lucifer Season 5B forever! The wait has been unbearable, but finally, it’s here! The season has had its ups and downs and left us all emotionally drained. That’s not everything, though. Lucifer season 5B also delivered a devastating loss to us.

From this point on this article will contain HEAVY spoilers for Lucifer Season 5B

There have been a lot of things we’ve been looking forward to this season. God is around, Michael is scheming, Lucifer might become God… all crazy things. None were as big as a shocking and painful death that changes the series forever.

Family is a central theme this year on Lucifer, and God wants his family back. He tries several different methods to get his children to just… get along. None of them work though. Lucifer ends up understanding his father.

He ends up understanding his father right around the time God decides to retire as, well, God. He’s decided to let his children decide who will be taking over the role of God, and Lucifer wants it.

It’s during an investigation, all while Lucifer and Chloe are preparing to leave Los Angeles, that Dan is kidnapped. He’s kidnapped and interrogated about someone who possesses superhuman abilities. He has no answers and gets shot.

He survives long enough to deliver a clue to Chloe but unfortunately dies from his wounds. Everyone is shocked and devastated at Dan’s death, including Lucifer. The loss is incredibly tragic.

This is all part of a bigger plan for the series and it’s important to remember this was supposed to be the last season. It was renewed for a season 6 but the showrunners chose not to change anything.

“One of the big things that we said when we agreed to Season 6 is that we did not want to change Season 5 because we loved Season 5,” Henderson previously said in an interview with Collider. “When the back half gets released from Season 5, when Season 5B gets released, I think people will see how much the whole season fits together like, I think, a beautiful jigsaw puzzle. I love it. We didn’t want to change the ending, but what we did is we just ended Season 5. We basically lopped off the act six that Ildy was in the middle of writing, and these stories that we sort of were speeding through anyways, we realized, in retrospect, we were sort of moving really fast on some things and summarizing moments that could actually be stories.”

How do you guys feel about Dan’s death?
