As many die-hard toy collectors know, many companies announce new items at large comic cons, expos, and toy fairs. This week’s London Toy Fair is no exception, and Funko made a plethora of announcements yesterday regarding some of the companies plans for 2019 and beyond. Funko breaks news about products all the time, but such announcements typically come sporadically. However, the company was releasing updates every 15-20 minutes yesterday, so here are some highlights for those looking to be in the know:
A second line of Scooby Doo Pops! will be hitting the shelves later this year, but the images provided yesterday are just drafts. The characters are expected to be produced, but the poses/images may be up for some final tweaking. (Side note: This rule of thumb is noted on many of the concept drawings below.)
SpongeBob Squarepants will also be getting a second line of figures, and Target will notably be receiving an exclusive 10″ Pop! of the title character. Hot Topic will also be singing “Sweet Victory” with its exclusive figure.
There were quite a few Disney Funko items released yesterday, and franchises like Toy Story, Hercules, The Little Mermaid, Incredibles, and Dumbo all had various lines announced.
The Harry Potter franchise added to its already enormous Funko family with some Vyn figures, 5 Star, and plushes.
It comes to no surprise of the collector that Funko made a lot of Game of Thrones announcements yesterday with series coming to an end this year. From my experience in various collecting groups, it seems like the Game of Thrones Funko products are somewhat hit or miss. Some fans love them and buy them up quickly, but there always seems to be an abundance of the figures in bargain bins or on clearance shelves. Whether you love them or tolerate them, these new images look pretty cool.
Some anime announcements came, as well, and Dragon Ball Z will continue to receive some vinyl love. Also, look out for the first release of Aggretsuko. See the second photo for exclusive locations.
The next, and last, line I want to highlight was the cult classic Office Space. The images are still subject to change, but I am so excited to add Milton’s Pop! to my collection, and the Lumbergh one is going to be popular, as well.
Some other lines/figures that were introduced were UFC, Soccer, J.J. Abrams, Lord of the Rings, Bewitched, additional Batman (see cover image), and Morrissey. Pre-orders for most of these Pops! can be found here, just search for the specific line.
