On January 12th, Lisa Marie Presley tragically passed away after experiencing a cardiac arrest. Although the official cause of death is yet to be determined pending toxicology results, Los Angeles County Fire Department reported that paramedics responded quickly to her home in response to a full cardiac arrest emergency call prior to her passing at age 54. Being Elvis Presley’s only child makes this loss even more heartbreaking for those close and connected with Lisa Marie.
Presley’s cause of death has not been determined yet. Sources told TMZ On January 14th, the autopsy had already been completed but toxicology tests are still underway. Unfortunately, it is uncertain when these specific results will be finalized.
Paramedics were dispatched to Presley’s Calabasas, California home at 10:37 a.m. after they received a call about a woman “in full cardiac arrest,” fire department spokesperson Craig Little told the Associated Press. Arriving at the scene in a matter of minutes, paramedics began CPR and quickly detected signs of life from the patient before promptly transporting him to West Hills Hospital. According to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, that was when Presley had his last chance for survival.
Tragically, upon her admission to the hospital, Presley was reportedly announced as brain dead, sources told TMZ. To save her life, doctors put her into a medically induced coma and provided life support. As the risk of a second cardiac arrest remained high, her family sadly agreed to sign a “do not resuscitate” order. Tragically, she suffered another heart attack only moments later and was pronounced dead shortly after.
After spending a few hours in the hospital, Priscilla Presley sadly announced her daughter’s passing. “It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,” Priscilla said on Jan.12. “She was the most passionate, strong, and loving woman I have ever known.”
“Priscilla Presley and the Presley family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Lisa Marie,” the Presley family said in another statement on Jan. 12. “They are profoundly grateful for the support, love, and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time.”
Just two days after Presley and her mother graced the red carpet at the Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles, where Austin Butler was honored for his portrayal of Elvis in Baz Luhrmann’s film; Presley passed away. The same day before this poignant moment, she had also attended a special celebration commemorating her father’s birthday at Graceland in Memphis.
Presley’s memory will live on through her mother, actress Riley Keough (33), and her twin daughters Harper and Finley (14). Sadly, however, Presley lost her son Ben in July of 2020 when he passed away from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. In loving memory of him, she was laid to rest next to his side at Graceland.
“Over the last year, the entire Elvis movie family and I have felt the privilege of Lisa Marie’s kind embrace,” Luhrmann wrote on Instagram on Jan. 13. “Her sudden, shocking loss has devastated people all around the world. I know her fans everywhere join me in sharing prayers of love and support with her mother, Priscilla, and her wonderful daughters Riley, Finley, and Harper. Lisa Marie, we will miss your warmth, your smile, your love.”
