The 2008 movie Taken, starring Liam Neeson in a compelling performance, was an incredible success with audiences due to its simple and straightforward premise. It became even more popular than expected at the box office – grossing over $220 million on just a mere $25 million budget. But it wasn’t until Neeson’s iconic “very particular set of skills” phone call scene that the film truly achieved meme status among viewers everywhere! From the instant moviegoers caught a glimpse of the trailer, this moment became an enormous hit. After its release, it only solidified that fact even more. Surprisingly enough though, for the Oscar-nominated actor in the scene, he never anticipated it to be so successful while filming on set!

“I was very surprised by Taken..I thought it was going to be a straight-to-video film. It was such a simple story,” Neeson said in a recent interview with Vanity Fair. When asked about the phone call scene, Neeson added, “I certainly did sound scary, but I thought it was corny. It was a cornball. I really did feel that. It’s nice to be proven wrong.”

After the groundbreaking success of Taken, Liam Neeson’s career was catapulted into a new realm and jumpstarted an illustrious action franchise that grossed nearly one billion dollars worldwide. Its sequel, Taken 2, released four years later pulled in over 377 million at the box office globally. The next installment -Taken 3- only three years after its predecessor made another 327 million! This is testament to how influential this cinematic series has been and what it’s meant for both Mr. Neeson personally as well as moviegoers alike around the world.

All combined, the three films raked in more than $930 million around the world. One might assume that this would have led to a fourth movie; yet instead of another film, we received an exciting prequel television series which ran for two seasons.

After appearing in a dozen action-thrillers, including the Taken movies, Neeson’s career could be headed for an entirely new direction — comedy. Rumors have it that he is set to star in a reboot of The Naked Gun and news confirms that this film will most likely become reality.

During the same interview, Neeson voiced his opinion on the film: “Although it’s not yet a done deal, Seth MacFarlane is diligently working on its script and Akiva Schaffer will be directing. I don’t know if this comedy will make or break my career though – we’ll have to wait and see!”
